I have to put a load of clothes in the washer, and from looking at the labels of the t-shirts/shorts and jeans, the majority of the clothes I'm washing say ';Machine Wash Cold';, but there are a few that do say ';Machine Wash Warm';. My question is: Will washing all of them in cold water damage the ones that say ';Machine Wash Warm';?Help with washing clothes?
No, cold water will not harm clothes which can be washed in warm water. It may help them to last longer.
When I wash jeans, I zip/button them and turn them inside out. That helps to preserve their color longer, keeps them from fading. (I also turn t-shirts with designs on them, our good office/church clothes, and delicates inside out before I wash them.)
When I put clothes in the dryer, I turn them right side out, the only exception being t-shirts which have designs on the front.
When I wash dark colors, I use a good detergent for dark colors. Woolite for Darks is very good, but it does not come in an HE formula. Since I now have an HE washer, I use Tide Total Care HE, and it is very good too.
If you are concerned about transfer of color, you can use Shout Color Catchers (link below) to trap any dye which 'bleeds' into the wash water.
If you are washing new red clothes, I recommend washing them separately from all other colors.
White vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser will help to preserve the colors of your clothes: 1 cup in a full load in a washer with agitator or 1/2 cup in a full load in an HE washer is sufficient. You can add some FS to it if you wish.
If you don't have a FS dispenser, you can put it in a Downy ball (link below) or add it manually to the last rinse.
Hope this helps!Help with washing clothes?
I would make sure that you wash jeans in a cold wash (about 30-40deg c) otherwise they may shrink the leg length. Make sure that you only put in the same colours that if the jeans loose a little of their dye that it will not effect the colour of the other garments.
It is only a recommendation to use warm wash, it will not hurt them to wash them in cooler water. It uses much power if you only use a cold wash, so think of it as your bit for the environment.
