From one guy to another - no, it won't break it. But if the one item is something that will hold a lot of water (like a sweater or a bath towel) then the washer may jump around during the spin cycle. Which *sounds* like the poor thing is coming apart. :)


Of course, that could happen anyway if part of the load all ended up on one side of the barrel. Just stop it, open the lid, and spread out the load. Good luck.
I do it all the time. Just set it on the lowest water settings.
