So I'm 38 weeks preg and getting all the baby clothes and blankets washed...I just washed them like i usually wash all my other stuff using Tide laundry detergent. Now I'm worried what if my baby has sensitive skin and gets a rash? Do i have to re-wash everything in fragrance free detergent now? Or should I just wait and see what happens? If I use the Tide on her as a newborn will my baby develop eczema? Just wondering..kind of worried now. What should I use to wash my newborn's clothes?
you should use something hypoallergenic. anything else is likely to give newborn skin a rash. all newborn have sensitive skin. What should I use to wash my newborn's clothes?
I would just rewash it to be on the safe side. Anything that's free %26amp; clear is good. I used Eco's Baby Laundry detergent the first months and now even though I still wash her clothes separate from ours I use Arm %26amp; Hammer with Oxi Clean powder detergent. It takes the formula right out! My daughter doesn't have sensitive skin. I have also used Pinelen, Gain, and Clorox 2 and she has never had a problem. I have always used fabric softener on her clothes also and she's still fine.
I have 4 children with my oldest 2 I used Ivory Snow, it makes too much suds if you ask me, but with my twins I used Dreft, now that they are 9 months old I use a detergent called Simplicity, it's hypo-allergenic %26amp; it's fragrance free.
Never use Tide on their clothes until they are at least 4-6 years of age.
I should know my two oldest kids are 13 %26amp; 10 %26amp; I still wash their clothes seperately from mines %26amp; my husbands.
I hope this helps, Good Luck!!!
You are not supposed to wash your babies clothes with the same detergent you use on your own clothes. There is a product called ';dreft'; it is a bit more expensive, but that is what you should use and it can be found in the same aisle as other detergents!
No I wouldn't use the same stuff that you use to wash your own clothes as all babies skins are sensitive so will not tolerate anything other than a non-biological washing powder. I use Persil washing powder and Comfort Pure softener to keep my babies clothes soft against their skin.
I never bothered to use special detergent. The baby is going to come into contact with your clothes every time you pick him/her up anyways so why bother using a different detergent on his/her clothes? If the baby does have an allergic reaction then I would switch but if not why bother buying different detergents??
it's best to use a non biological powder. my son has eczema and the non biological powder is what keeps it at bay. i have always used the non biological one so thats not why he developed eczema i still dont know why he got it!
Sorry but I would re-wash everything :-( I use All free %26amp; clear brand detergent. It has no perfumes or dyes. It is as good as dreft at half the price. Its the only detergent I use. I have sensitive skin and it doesn't bother me at all.
You can use dreft or other baby detergents but you can also use any detergent that is free of dyes and perfumes we use tide free or cheer just rewash you'll be fine.
Just buy a bottle of detergent that is fragrant and dye free, tide makes one but its expensive i bought the Purex one! just re wash them and ur baby should be fine!
ecos, country save..or anything that is natural...
Stay away from anything that has chemicals in it...like tide
we use the tide zero it has a green cap and it is much cheaper then draft
I wash my whole family's clothing in detergent I make myself using one bar of Dial hypoallergenic soap, 1/2 cup of Borax, 1 cup of Arm %26amp; Hammer Washing Soda, and 4 gallons plus 4 cups of hot water. It fights stains just as well as commercial detergent, has never irritated any of our skin, is very cost effective, plus is ecologically friendlier. Making a batch takes me about 15 minutes of prep, then it has to sit overnight. The end result is 52 loads worth of quality detergent. You can add some essential oils for fragrance if you like.
Most babies do okay with regular detergent, but if her skin is very sensitive, it can be irritating. If you want to continue using Tide, I'd look for a dye and fragrance free variety, which would be gentler. I would not worry about rewashing the loads you've already done--if she seems irritated later, go for it, but she'll probably be fine, so don't create more work for yourself. Hope that helps!
Also, I'd avoid fabric softener. I could be wrong, but I've heard it diminishes the flame retardant qualities of baby clothes, posing obvious safety hazards. I never looked it up, since we never used it anyway, but it's worth looking into if you do.
Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy--hope your delivery is everything you want it to be.
