How often do you usually wash the ACU and the PT? Can you get more then one outfit?
And specific instructions to washing and drying? Detergent? Fabric softener? Ironing? How should one wash one's ACU and PT clothes?
For the ACUs you should take off all the patches, zip everything up and turn them inside out. Make sure to use a detergent that does not contain bleach and I personally don't use fabric softener. Dry them on low or medium. We wash all the ACUs and PT stuff together. There are instructions on the labels. How should one wash one's ACU and PT clothes?
You get issued four sets of ACUs, normally. You can get away with wearing the same set for five duty days in winter, since you wear t-shirt and underwear underneath, unless you get greasy at the motor pool. Summers are hotter and you're going to want to change more often than that.
You are supposed to wash them in detergents without ';optical brighteners'; because ACUs are designed to be infrared neutral. Additives in some detergents will make you glow in the dark on infrared. I usually stick with the off-brand woolite they sell at the PX/BX. Works great, doesn't smell like chemical flowers, doesn't irritate my skin, best of all, doesn't mess up that infrared thing.
PTs, it doesn't much matter.
Just don't use bleach on anything but your white socks.
for your ACUs machine wash, i do it on permanant press cycle.. with warm water, and mild detergant.. or you could even hand wash them but dont wring them out or twist.. dont use clhorine bleach or startch and dry on low.. thats what i do for my marpats (marines)
for PT clothes, i do it like all other clothes, just wash and dry.. thats all.. i think if you look on the inside of your ACU patrol cap.. itll have instructions
wash ACU's like anything else but if you drying is hell on Velcro. on the pockets you dont use the velcro will almost seize together and your name tapes wont stick. i need to replace the velcro on mine because of that fact. some people air dry or just take out of dryer early....
pt gear i wash with everything else.
They have care instructions, but generally just don't dry them on the hottest setting and don't iron them.
