Hi, all.
I recently bought a used washing machine and got it hooked up in my new place. Right now, I don't have a dryer - I'm just drying my clothes on a rack. I've noticed over the last few weeks that when my clothes come out of the wash, they are extremely linty. I can see quite a bit of lint in my machine around the edge of the drum. I can't find a lint trap on the washer, and don't have a user's manual. Does anyone have any tips about how to clean the lint out of the washer, and how to prevent this from happening in the future?
Thanks! My washing machine is making my clothes linty - how to fix?
This is what I would do:
Check to see who is the manufacturer. Look for a metal label that also identifies the model number and any manufacturing codes. Find the manufacturer's website and see if there is a place to click for user's manuals. The information might also be called ';consumer information'; or ';owner's guide,'; something like that. Skim through the list of models for which the site offers manuals and see if yours is listed. I hope you will find it!
If that doesn't work (and if it is a very old washer it may not) try contacting your friendly local appliance repairman. He can certainly look your machine over and give his opinion. Maybe you think that sounds too simple and too expensive but I would recommend doing that over taking the machine apart and not being able to put it back together again so that it functions as well as it did before.
Another approach is to visit your friendly reference librarian at your local librarian. She or he can tell you what sort of appliance repair manuals they have. Quite possibly there will be a book there to at least get you pointed in the right direction. Public libraries have a wealth of information which you can't find using the internet. Really.
Or, there is always the option of buying a new washer--sorry if that hurts to hear. Or, you can take your clean, wet clothes to a laundromat and use a coin-operated dryer. The dryers will have lint traps and that will help remove some/most of your lint.My washing machine is making my clothes linty - how to fix?
Find the serial number or model number or some type of identifying number from the machine and Google it. Something should come up on your machine and you can possibly figure out from there how to clean out you lint trap.
Good luck
Actually it is probably not your washer at all, it is probably the laundry detergent that you are using. Normal store bought brands have a lot of chemicals in them, that are very hard on the fabric of your cloths. The same chemicals stay in your cloths, and soak into your skin. Harmful to your over all health at the same time.
I have been washing cloths for about 40 years, and have never seen a washer with a lint filter, only a dryer. The reason you probably never noticed this before, is because the lint came off your cloths in the dryer. Wearing your cloths out faster, and showing wear and tear faster.
You might want to think about changing over to safer more natural cleaners. That is what I use, and love them, they work better not so hard on your cloths and health.
